Air-Head Space
Forty nine down, one to go. Our ten year tour through the state quarters is coming to an end. Just as our new collection of dollar coins has reached Millard Filmore!
I found an Alaska quarter today. Minted right before the election when the Alaskan governor is running for Vice President. Coincidence, or obvious political ploy?
Sure, Alaska is the 49th state, and it's been nine years and 9 months since the quarter-palooza started. Still... The quarter's larger than the other 49 (Alaska is a LARGE state); it celebrates the 5,000 years that the world has existed; and it looks suspiciously like a ruble.
"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state." --Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008
