Abby pulled off the best conversation re-directs I have experienced. We were at dinner, talking about a topic in which she hadn't quite learned in school yet, but had a very strong opinion noetheless. I don't remember the exact topic, but it was perhaps nuclear fusion, the Greek roots in the English language, ornithology, or the political/corporate underpinnings of popular uprisings in the Middle East (we listen to NPR a lot).
Me: "Cold fusion has not been shown to be scientifically sustainable."
Abby: "Yes it has."
Me: "The cold fusion experiments have been disproven. The anamolous heat production could not be reproduced."
Abby: "Yes it could."
Me: "So, you believe Fleischmann and Pons' assertion of nuclear reactions creating energy at room temperature?"
Pause.
Abby: "I like pie."
Pause.
Me: "I also like pie."
