Here is a picture of all of the lovely Smith daughters - seen here at brunch after the ceremony to christen GGPa's headstone. Though "christen" is not the right word because he was a Jew. Maybe we "Jewened" it.
GGPa requested that they put, in Hebrew, the words "He was a lucky sumbitch" on his gravestone. My Aunt Randy did some digging and research (thank you hebrew_gravestone_translations.com!). The closest she could get in Hebrew was "He was a lucky bastard." Which in Hebrew looks like (remember to upload picture later).
It's been a good 34 years since Hebrew school for me, so I have no idea if his gravestone actually says that. And I mean that it has been GOOD to be that far from Hebrew school. Hebrew is an awful language to learn, and Mrs. Rosenthal was the devil. If Jews believed in the devil.
And even if it hadn't been 34 years, all I learned in eight years of Hebrew school was six words and how to pronounce the letters so that I could look like I knew what I was saying at my Bar Mitzvah. For which I got about twelve Cross pens, $7,300 in cash, and a cool lava lamp from my friend Bobby. I blew the cash on college and never used the pens. I do miss that lava lamp.
But anyway, those are my daughters.
