Bad Old Putty Tat

We went to the Farmer's Market recently, and one of our purchases was a lovely multi-colored birdhouse. I went up on the ladder and nailed it to the tree outside the reach of Blossom. When no birds signed a lease to occupy (or even attended the bird open houses we had every Sunday afternoon), we sweetened the deal. I dusted off an old bird feeder and bird seed from the garage, tossed a string over the tree, and voila! Room AND Board.

Still no birds. I have two theories. One, birds may not like twelve year old bird seed, and it might reflect negatively on the landlord that we offer really old food. And two, looking closer at the bird feeder and house, it could be construed as looking like, from a bird's point of view, an elaborate bird-catching trap. "Sure, buddy, I'll perch on that contraption. Of course a big net is not going to fall from the tree. Jerk." (Or as it sounds like to humans - "Tweet, tweeeeeet, tweet. Jerk.")

And of course, while Blossom can't quite reach the Bird House, her interest in chasing birds and squirrels around the yard probably doesn't help.
