The girls and I went kayaking with my brother and his family over the weekend. Fun was had by all.
I did find that our kayak was rapidly falling behind everyone else's. I came up with several theories for this.
First, our kayak was larger and heavier, thereby creating more drag in the water. Second, I'm not necessarily in the best shape, and my stamina did not match my brother's (or even my ten-year-old niece Hannah - but she is a champion synchronized swimmer!).
But I think the most compelling explanation is the configuration - one kid in front and one in the back (facing backwards), each equipped with a paddle and trying desperately to be of help. It seriously did not dawn on me until half-way through the trip that Abby was paddling in the opposite direction. Which explained a good amount of our drag and actually why we kept circling this buouy.
