Fairy Tale Fact Checking

The other night at dinner, Alexis had an epiphany, one that had never occured to me.

We were talking about fairy tales, especially about Jack and Jill.  Since their mother had once been with a man named Jack, and as you might remember, that ended badly.

Alexis asked, "Why did they go up the hill to get water?"

Brilliant!  No one would drill a well at the TOP of a hill.  It makes no sense at all.  Jill had no answer, and apparently wants to let the whole crown-breaking incident fade from her memory.

Clearly on a roll, Alexis added, "And why didn't the witch from Hansel and Gretal just eat her candy house if she was that hungry?"

That one I knew.  Children contain protein, a critical component of any witch's balanced diet.
