It was an interesting weekend. I started Saturday morning riding with a friend who was thinking about joining a long-distance cycling group. They have some French name. Raconteur. Or Debonair. Randonneur - that's it! They ride 200, 300, 500, even 1200 kilometers or more. The ride Saturday was only 100k (62 miles for those who speak American). It was called a "Populaire", and one could fill out a "Brevet" card to prove they had completed the course. Which entitles you to, well, I'm not exactly sure. I think if you do enough of these things, you get a croissant. Or perhaps a title and a castle (or is that just England?).
I don't think I'll do enough of them to get my free bread. It got to 108 degrees Saturday. And even though we started at 7, I finished around noon, when my car says it was 125. Granted, my car is a bit of a diva, but it was in the 90's at least, and after five hours of riding, I was done for the day.
And as it turns out, for the rest of the weekend. My girls wanted to see the Lord of the Rings movies, so I got them on Friday, thinking we'd space them out over the next few weeks. Just for fun, I got the super special extra extended dvd versions that included hours of additional footage. The movies run close to four hours each. In case you were interested, yes, you can watch 12 hours of movies over a day and a half. Especially when it's 108 outside (and 125 in your car).
The main problem with watching 12 hours of Lord of the Rings? Not bed sores. Not sporadic nutrition. No, it's that it has affected how we talk.
"Father, bed time shall not come to pass."
"There is a gathering darkness in this kitten, son of cat."
"Whither shall thou hath harkened!"
All of us except Jill, daughter of Karen. She who thinketh us fools. My precious!
P.S. Alexis, daughter of Jill, and Jill, mother of Alexis doth finished a triathlon on Sunday morning hence. Alexis, daughter of Jill, slayeth the course, finishing second in her age group. She doth bring good fortune upon our house. And some free water bottles.
